The mission of the Sangamon County Historical Society is to perpetuate and create interest in the history of Springfield and Sangamon County, and promote educational and literary purposes. Research The Sangamon County Historical Society does not maintain a research library. All inquires about Sangamon County histories are referred to the Sangamon Valley Collection at Lincoln Library in Springfield, Illinois. Lincoln Bicentennial

in commemorating the 200th anniversary of the birth of Abraham

was established by the Governor in 2006 to plan and coordinate
Illinois’ celebration of the 200th anniversary
New book on sale at the Iles House during the holiday house tours on December 19, 2007. The project was taken on by the SCHS Project Awards Committee, chaired by Gil Pilapil in honor of Oak Ridge Cemetery’s 150 anniversary. Some forty-three articles about those buried at Oak Ridge are included, along with a history, pictures and a map of the cemetery. In addition there are pictures of some of the businesses mentioned in the stories. The book sells for $15.00/ $12.00 for SCHS members.
Don Springer and Dean Williams have produced a DVD of the complete 2005 Cemetery Walk . This is something we have been wanting for a long time and we are pleased to finally have one available. We have purchased several for resale at meetings and other events. Contact the Society to order. |
