Lincoln
Bicentennial Commission Report
Lincoln Library, Carnegie Room, North / 7 pm
Ms. Smith and Ms. Adams will discuss the
projects, events and programs planned for Springfield and
Central Illinois in commemorating the 200th anniversary of
the birth of Abraham Lincoln. The Illinois Abraham Lincoln
Bicentennial Commission was established by the Governor in
2006 to plan and coordinate Illinois’ celebration of the
200th anniversary
of Abraham Lincoln’s birth on February 12, 2009. This is a
part of a national effort currently underway to commemorate
the bicentennial. The Illinois Commission is focused on
informing the public of the impact Lincoln had on the
development of our state and nation, and finding the best
possible way to honor his accomplishments. Many events are
planned throughout the state – from ice cream socials to
symposiums to the Illinois Symphony performing music to the
words of Lincoln. Educational programs will be presented by
local community organizations, colleges, libraries, museums
and others. Existing public monuments and sites will be
enhanced and new monuments will be created as a permanent
reminder of the bicentennial.

In addition there are pictures of some of the businesses mentioned in the stories.
The book sells for $15.00/ $12.00 for SCHS members.
Don Springer and Dean Williams have produced a DVD of the complete 2005 Cemetery Walk . This is something we have been wanting for a long time and we are pleased to finally have one available. We have purchased several for resale at meetings and other events. Contact the Society to order.
